A Paddle Steamer’s remarkable renovation

In the Spring of 2024, Perth’s beloved paddle steamer celebrated her makeover ahead of the start of the cruising season.

A long standing feature of the South Perth foreshore, The Decoy is berthed on the Mends Street Jetty to the delight of locals and visitors alike. The Decoy is available for charter for a range of events be it corporate functions, weddings, private functions along with publicly available ticketed events.

From the dockside the paddle steamer is looking smart with a fresh look revamped marine themed colour. Stepping aboard onto the lower deck, the renovated bar area sees all new commercial appliances to ensure cold drinks are kept super chilled and the range of espresso coffees hot! Moving to the rear of the lower deck you will note the exposed 1905 Ransome Sims and Jefferies twin cylinder steam engine – when underway you are able to observe the splashing paddles and working engine that work seamlessly to create a mechanical symphony. This historical beauty was salvaged and restored from Bunnings engineering workshops in Manjimup.

On the upstairs deck, all new covers and clears control the elements whilst allowing unimpeded views of the Perth City skyline and Swan River surrounds. Be it night or day, the unrivalled vantage point offers the most stunning Perth cityscape and Kings Park views available.

Onboard, service delivery is effected by friendly and efficient staff – nothing is too much trouble and the staff ensure a perfect day out. Catering is by a range of Perth’s leading providers and can vary from the likes of freshly cooked paella, grazing tables, sumptuous cocktail catering through to full buffet options. The Decoy is fully licensed; drink options are flexible and can be adjusted to suit your event.

Varied entertainment options are available for private charters. Ticketed events can feature anything from tribute acts, jazz, blues, strings… there is something for everyone.
